Kaolinite

2015
Steel, pin board, photographs, various objects
175 x 200 x 140 cm

The work is organised around a three-dimensional grid based on the molecular structure of kaolinite, the most basic form of clay. A constellation of artefacts and images which 'inhabits' it is based on research into the range of personal associations with soil, from molecular attraction in mineral particles to emotional bonds with the land.

Project initiated in the context of 'Soil Culture' residency organised by the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World (CCANW) at Eden Project in Cornwall, UK, a biodiversity centre built in a former clay pit.
